2016 Points and Handicapping Structure for Big Diamond Speedway

Modifieds and Sportsman

  • Handicapping is done a full season point average
  • Total points earned divided by the number of races run
  • A driver must have raced in 3 of the last 5 races to be handicapped
  • If a driver doesn’t meet this requirement, they will be started at the rear of the qualifying event
  • Concerns with a driver who is not experienced enough or vehicle capable of starting in their handicapped spot will be addressed on a case by case by the officials
  • Feature lineup based on handicap with previous race winner starting in last handicapped position unless a non-handicapped driver makes the invert through qualifying race

 Road Runners and Street Stocks

  • Random draw for heat races weekly – driver or representative must redraw during allotted time prior to warm ups.
  • If a driver fails to draw during the allotted time frame prior to warm ups, they will start at the rear of the heat race
  • A driver must have attempted to qualify 3 of the last 5 races to be able to draw
  • Drivers not meeting this requirement will start at the rear of the qualifying event
  • Feature line-up based on the draw, previous week feature winner will start in last re-draw position based on car count.
  • If a non-redraw car makes the invert through the heat, they will start behind the qualified invert cars including the previous feature winner

Number of events based on car count

  • 24 or fewer cars = 2 heat races, no consolation. All qualify, 6 handicapped
  • 25-36 cars = 3 heat races, 1 consolation (based on need). 6 qualify from the heats, 4 handicapped. 8 from consolation
  • 37-48 cars = 4 heat races, 2 consolations. 5 qualify from the heats, 3 handicapped. 3 cars will qualify from each consolation.
  • 49+ cars = 5 heat races, 3 consolations. 4 qualify from the heats, 2 handicapped. 2 cars will qualify from the consolations

Point System

  • Heat Races
    • Based on qualifying cars
      • When 4 cars qualify
        • 1st = 10 points
        • 2nd = 9 points
        • 3rd = 8 points
        • 4th = 7 points
      • When 5 cars qualify
        • 1st = 10 points
        • 2nd = 9 points
        • 3rd = 8 points
        • 4th = 7 points
        • 5th = 6 points
      • When 6 cars qualify
        • 1st = 10 points
        • 2nd = 9 points
        • 3rd = 8 points
        • 4th = 7 points
        • 5th = 6 points
        • 6th = 5 points
      • When 7 cars qualify
        • 1st = 10 points
        • 2nd = 9 points
        • 3rd= 8 points
        • 4th = 7 points
        • 5th = 6 points
        • 6th = 5 points
        • 7th = 4 points

If there are 8 or more, points will go down by 1 point. NO points are awarded for consolation races. Drivers attempting to qualify but do not do so through the heat or consolation will receive 10 points for being there. 

  • Feature Points Awarded
    • Winner will receive 300 points and will go down by 10 for each position up to 29th position. Any position after 29 will receive 20 points

Points will be posted each week at the pit office prior to the evening’s activities.
